Juxtavoices
Juxtavoices is a large choir formed by Martin Archer in early 2010, whose membership
is open to any singer irrespective of training. The repertoire mixes simple scores and instructions
with improvised elements, which often allow the choir to determine the shape of the music as it
progresses. No previous experience of either group singing or improvising is required!
Rehearsals begin with workshop style exercises which are designed to encourage the choir's
confidence in using non standard techniques, including improvisation.
Meeting once per month, the objective is to be in a position to perform and record in 2011
To quote one member:
"the possibilities are endless...chanting...incantations...howling...
wailing...speaking in tongues...interwoven with lines of other stuff...
folksy, bluesy, gospelly, punky, funky, jazzy, plainsong,
hymnals or whatever...? Its barking!"
